Morning Meeting Agenda
The science of change!
Everything around us is always changing — the seasons, our bodies, even rocks! Scientists study change to understand how our world works. Today we’ll think about the changes happening all around us right now.
Scientists notice change all around them! The weather changes, plants grow, and even we change as we get older.
- What is something that has changed since you started school this year?
- What do you think will change about our classroom as the year goes on?
Show me change with your body! Start curled up small like a seed, then slowly grow into a tall, strong tree. Change can be amazing!
Scientists study physical and chemical changes in the world. A physical change is when something changes shape but stays the same material. A chemical change creates something brand new!
- Is tearing a piece of paper a physical or chemical change? What about burning it?
- What changes do you notice happening outside as summer shifts toward fall?
With a partner, come up with one example of a physical change and one example of a chemical change from everyday life. Be ready to share — and explain how you know which is which!
