Your name is a story!

Every name carries a story — who chose it, what it means, who came before you. Today, during Hispanic Heritage Month, we meet a writer who became famous by writing about exactly that.

PreK–2 Lions Grades 3–5 Lions

Meet Sandra Cisneros! She is a Mexican American writer. When she was little, her mom took her to the library — and all those books made her want to write her own. She wrote a famous story about her name!

Word of the Day: NAME. Your name is special. Someone chose it just for you!

Do you know who picked your name? Do you know why?
What is your favorite thing about your name?

Name cheer! Turn to a partner, say your name proudly, and clap once for each part: “Ma-ri-a!” (clap, clap, clap). How many claps is your name?
